Layton takes great care in the selection of the wood and it’s time-consuming placement , matching of grain and color. He believes the figure in the wood is one of the most essential visuals, that lead to making a finished product exceptional. He uses time- tested old world joinery, Mortise & tenon, dovetails, and hand rubbed finishes.
Layton welcomes Designers as well as Architects and works closely with them on any architectural installations as well as Designer visions. - - Yet, you don't have to be a Designer or Architect to work with him - he understands that design is a bit of an evolution and is more than willing to take his clients by the hand and lead them through the process. Whether it's a modification of a previous design or an original concept, Layton Scott custom fabricates the ideal furniture or cabinet design for your next project.
Layton has won first place, at the North Eastern Woodworkers Expo for traditional design as well as, a Judges Commendation for a consistent body of work and overall fine craftsmanship for his booth. He has given seminars featuring, the making of mission furniture.
His love for woodworking always leaves the door to his shop open for clients to come observe and learn or just watch the process in action.
Layton has been in the building trade for the last twenty -five years, starting out in the construction field and learning all aspects of the home building process. His talent as a fine carpenter soon came to light and he progressed over to the art of Fine woodworking. His natural borne creativity could not allow him to stop there so, about fifteen years ago Layton began creating furniture both functional as well as sculptural. He loves the free expression that creating a one of a kind piece brings to him as well as helping a client’s vision come to light.
